Cultural-historical complex of Ston, with walls and fortifications built in the time of the Dubrovnik Republic, as a unique potential for intensive development of tourism, is in poor physical condition and therefore inaccessible to tourists. Based on these benchmarks has been created and designed integrated project "History on a grain of salt," which provides reconstruction, rehabilitation and equipping of the key objects of cultural heritage in the area of Ston.
The lead beneficiary is a municipality of Ston, as partners participating Regional Development Agency DUNEA, the Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiques, Parish of St. Blaise – Ston, Tourist Board of Ston and entrepreneur Natura Dalmatia.
Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities through this project will finance the reconstruction, furnishing and equipping fortress Koruna and equipping fortress Great Kaštio, reconstruction and renovation of south wall of Ston walls and landscaping of the park Komarda. The impressive complex of Ston walls and fortress built in the 14th century, as its most important, but also, according to the physical condition, the most critical point of the fortress Great Kaštio in Ston and the fortress of Koruna in Mali Ston. After the reconstruction, renovation and equipping they will be unique visitor attractions.
Reconstruction of south wall in Ston further strengthens the attractiveness of the complex. This part of the walls is in the center of Ston, next to the park Komarda and near Lapidarij. Park Komarda now in bed shape, and its arrangement will enable a safer and more comfortable access to the walls. Also it will create a functional unit that will enable future visitors walls relaxation area, children's games and entertainment (parents with children), and a space for information and for organizing various social and cultural events.
On approaching the walls and park Komarda is situated Bishop's Palace with lapidary. For the implementation of the activities of renovation and expansion of Ston lapidary will be in charge of Parish of St. Blaise, Ston. This renovation creates additional attractive tourist location, which will offer unique exhibits of ecclesiastical and secular history.
The project provides for the reconstruction of the Napoleon road, in that part which is located in the municipality. Tourist board of Ston is responsible for promoting the project through tourism fairs and promotional materials, while the DUNEA, as one of the project partners, will be responsible for activity updates thematic paths 'Peljesac - wine empire'. The project includes a private entrepreneur Natura Dalmatia, which will upgrade its operations complement the project activities, all with the aim of better and richer tourist offer in the municipality of Ston based on cultural heritage.
