Programme: Interreg Mediterranean
Lead partner: Andalusian Federation of Towns and Provinces
Duration: 02/2018 – 07/2019
Budget: € 1.054.612,50 (DUNEA budget € 89.490,00)
About the project:
Nowadays coastline has undergone an intense urbanization process caused by housing needs, industrial uses, tourist exploitation based, most of all, on intensive patterns. As a result of this process, coastal zones, especially in the Mediterranean area, suffer from unsustainable expansion of settlements and an exponential increase of tourist flows pressure. In order to enhance the development of a sustainable and responsible coastal and maritime tourism in Mediterranean area, project COASTING supports the implementation and dissemination of an integrated coastal recovery and management tool based on a multilevel governance model (Coast Contract).
COASTING project is the result of co-operation of previously implemented coastal area management projects, COAST, COASTANCE and COASTGAP, where DUNEA participated as a project partner. In 2011, through COASTANCE project, Guidelines for Integrated Coastal Management of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County have been developed, as the first document of this kind at the regional level in Croatia, identifying key issues such as litoralisation, insufficiently developed infrastructure, unstable tourism growth, inefficient maritime management and others. Turbulent increase in the number of tourists resulted in the need for new solutions. In COASTING, through the capitalization process, project partners will define a common methodology focusing deeper on the tourism sector criticalities and contributing to a joint institutional uptake.
Partners on the project, along with DUNEA, are: Andalusian Federation of Towns and Provinces (Spain), Lazio Region – Regional Directorate for Territory, Urban Planning and Mobility (Italy), Gozo Regional Committee (Malta), Sapienza University of Rome-PDTA (Italy), Aix Marseille Metropolis (France), Region of Epirus-Regionl Unit of Thesprotia (Greece), Municipality of Saranda (Albania), Sicilian Region – Department of Cultural Heritage and of Sicilian Identity (Italy). Total project budget is € 1.054.612,50, where 85 % of the budget is provided by European Regional Development Fund, and it amounts € 896.420,63.
